Last year I launched an on-demand developer course I am creating on the latest development model for SharePoint: the SharePoint Framework. This course, Mastering the SharePoint Framework by Voitanos , is currently in pre-release as I continue to build and publish content every few weeks.
This past week, I taught the first delivery of the live version of this course to a handful of students. As with any first delivery of a course, even though the content was quite mature, I learned a few things and will make some changes for the next time this is offered.
New Chapters Published (sprint 7)
Last week I published two new chapters to the course that are immediately available to subscribers, wrapping up sprint 7 (I’ve adopted the agile process of using sprints to group work and releases to the course… this latest sprint included these two new chapters):
Creating SharePoint Assets and the Feature Framework
Previous SharePoint development models enabled developers to provision assets in SharePoint sites. This included things like list templates, list instances, and many other types. The SharePoint Framework provides a vehicle for developers to provision assets. In this chapter, you will learn how to provision SharePoint assets in SPFx projects.
Upgrading & Versioning Solutions
Once a SharePoint Framework solution has been deployed into production, there will likely come a time when you need to upgrade and add new features or address issues with the existing version. In this chapter, you will learn how to properly upgrade and version your custom solutions.
What’s Next - Sprint 8
This week I start sprint 8. This sprint will include one new chapter and significant updates to the deployment chapter including adding topics on:
- site collection app catalog
- asset provisioning
- updates to Office 365 CDN
- application lifecycle management APIs
